Deze tussenvoering is geproduceerd in NederlandFirm sewable horsehair plastron cloth shorn for sewing in (pad stitching)

Woven and shorn (and produced in the Netherlands) sewable resilliant horsehair canvas interfacing suitable for plastrons: insides of coats en jackets
Pad stitching is a tailor's technique to create form and solidity to coats, it's like a skeleton for a coat
Pieces of clothing with an inside of horsehair like tailored suits, coats en jackets have a long lifespan what makes them a more sustainable choice. Combine this shorn horsehair interfacing with a good quality woollen fabric then you can wear it for a long time!

Why is firm sewable horsehair shorn?

Because the hair in this horsehair is firm there are some hair ends that stick our of the cloth. The cloth is shorn to remove these hairs to improve comfort. The width of the horsehair cloth is 80 cm

Advantages of firm sewable shorn horsehair interfacing

  • washable
  • very resilliant
  • suited for heavier fabrics
  • prodominantly natural raw materials

Horsehair is not Vilene

Interfacing horsehair is not by het brand Vilene, Freudenberg Vilene is specialized in interfacing for consumeter that can be ironed on with a household iron. Horsehair is a tailor's article and therefore not Vilene, but an interfacing

Composition of woven shorn horsehair interfacing cloth

It's made from prodominantly natural raw materials
40% rayon - 32% hair - 28% polyester

The rayon gives it flexibillity, het hair makes it resilliant and the polyester gives firmness

What is this horsehair interfacing suitable for?

This horsehair canvas is a woven interfacing with high resilience. It is specifically intended for:

  • Application: Reinforcing chests and chest pieces (plastrons) in men's blazers and coats, or for use in sleeve heads

  • Fabric types: Ideally suited for medium-weight to heavy-weight fabrics

  • Properties: Thanks to the blend of viscose, hair, and synthetic fibers (plain weave with polyester weft), the fabric retains its shape and springiness

How to process?

Unlike fusible interfacing, this is a traditional interfacing:

  • Method: This canvas must be sewn-in

  • Technique: You process it by sewing it together with the other pattern pieces (for example, by pad stitching or stitching it into the seams)

  • Combination Tip: It can also be used in combination with a thin, flexible fusible interfacing (Vlieseline). Cut the horsehair canvas without seam allowance and the fusible interfacing with seam allowance. Place the fabric wrong-side up on the ironing board, then the horsehair canvas, and finally the fusible interfacing. Fuse the Vlieseline to the fabric (at the seam allowance) and to the horsehair canvas. Use a pressing cloth if required for the Vlieseline. Then, process the layers as a single piece

Washing and Cleaning Instructions

Although the title indicates "washable" horsehair, it is important to always consider the outer fabric of your garment when cleaning the finished piece. The specifications for this canvas are:

  • Washing: Machine washable up to 40°C

  • Steaming: Dry cleaning is possible

  • Maintenance: Thanks to the weight of 230 g/m², the plain weave, and the polyester weft, the canvas is robust enough for regular maintenance without losing its resilience

Do not bleach   Do not tumble dry   Dry clean (P)   Iron on wool setting   Wash at 40°C
