Polyester fleece for sleeve caps and making or adjusting shoulder pads
With this polyester felt fleece, you can easily create your own shoulder pads or sleeve inserts (snorren). By layering multiple pieces, you can achieve the desired height and thickness. This fleece is 100cm wide and 2mm thick

If you want to adjust an existing shoulder pad, simply add an extra layer on top or underneath to improve the fit for your garment

How to make your own shoulder pads

1. Take your pattern and measure your shoulder length
2. Measure the part of the sleeve cap where the shoulder pad will sit, adding a few centimeters for ease. This gives you an approximate size
3. Place the front and back pattern pieces with the shoulders aligned and draw the top layer of the shoulder pad
4. The bottom layer is usually slightly smaller, about 1 cm smaller all around, but this can vary
5. Gradually reduce the size of the layers in between, from the top layer down to the bottom layer
6. For sloping shoulders, add a few strips on the sleeve cap side to increase height there
7. Or use a thicker fiberfill to increase the height of your shoulderpad, like this one: Volume fleece thick 100 grams

This is not an exact science, so try the layers on your shoulder under your jacket. When you are happy with the thickness and size, hand-sew the layers together. Felt shoulder pads are often sewn with large stitches, which is usually sufficient

Tailor’s tip:When machine-sewing the shoulder pad into the sleeve cap, leave a small part of the top layer unattached to make sewing easier

How to make your own sleeve padding

1. Take your sleeve pattern
2. Draw your sleeve insert (snor) on it. The width is usually 4 to 5 cm
3. The sleeve insert is generally as long or slightly longer than the shoulder pad in the sleeve cap

Note: This felt fleece does not fray, so you can easily trim it if it’s too large
