What is fusible interfacing?

Fusible Vlieseline and Interlining feature an adhesive layer that bonds to the fabric through heat. For best results, use an iron or a heat press with a smooth soleplate (without steam holes), as the adhesive will not bond properly where the holes are located. Iron-on interfacing is essential in dressmaking, particularly for stabilizing collars, cuffs, facings, and shaped waistbands.

How to iron interfacing onto fabric (Instructions)

The following rule applies to all types of fusible interfacing: Place the interfacing with the rough side (the adhesive dots) onto the inside or "wrong side" of the fabric. Use an iron—often with a damp pressing cloth—and press step-by-step without sliding the iron, for an average of 8 to 12 seconds per spot. Sustainable choices: Organic interfacing

Our range also includes two biodegradable interfacings: B700 fusible cotton and B710 fusible batiste. These special types of Vlieseline are made from cotton with an innovative biodegradable adhesive that is both stable and effective. They are suitable for light to medium-weight fabrics, such as those used for blouses, shirts, dresses, skirts, trousers, and jackets.

Tips for the best results

•     Cooling: After ironing, always allow the fabric to cool flat for approximately 20-30 minutes to ensure the adhesive bonds properly
•     Testing: Always test a small scrap piece of your fabric first
•     Temperature: When applying Interfacing or Interlining, always adhere to the required ironing temperature! If your fabric cannot withstand that temperature, choose a variant with a lower melting point. A great example is interfacing for leather; leather cannot tolerate high temperatures, so you should opt for products like our Supple Fusible Viscose or LE420 leather interfacing
