- How do I choose the right interlining for my fabric? Think about what you want to achieve. Do you want to make a very warm coat or a comfortable quilt for your first child? Does it need to be firm, very voluminous, or should it remain supple? Once you have answered those questions for yourself, you will have a better idea of which type of wadding to use. - Do I always need to sew in wadding, or are there iron-on versions too? There are both sew-in and iron-on waddings. With sew-in wadding, you cut the pieces with seam allowance, just like the fabric. Sew them in together so the wadding stays firmly in place. The iron-on types have specific ironing instructions which you can find in the product description in the shop
- What is the best way to wash and care for wadding? Good question! This also varies by type, which is why you can find this information in the product description for the relevant type
- What is the difference between wadding, fiberfill and batting? In short: nothing. They are different names for the same products. Traditionally, fiberfill is made of polyester and batting originally referred to a knitted wadding, but over time the terms have come to be used interchangeably
- Can I also use wadding for projects other than clothing, such as bags or home accessories? Absolutely, you can certainly use it for all your textile projects where volume is desired. - How do I determine how much I need for my project?
- Check the wadding you have chosen and measure its width
- Look at the various pattern pieces and check whether they have a grain line or not. If so, lay all pieces in the same direction
- Then arrange the pieces on the table as if the wadding were already there. Check that you are not exceeding the width, then measure the length
- Keep in mind that many pattern pieces need to be cut twice, such as the front panel of a coat. You can also fold the wadding double on the table
- Add everything together and round up to account for seam allowances
