What is supple wool hair canvas interfacing used for?
Woven sew-in supple wool hair canvas interfacing is used for the internal structure (plastrons) of coats and jackets.
Plastrons are pad-stitched. Pad-stitching (pikeren) is a traditional tailoring technique used to give shape and structure to jackets—it acts as the "skeleton" of your garment. Garments last much longer when this technique is applied. This includes bespoke suits, sports coats, blazers, and jackets. Combining high-quality supple wool hair canvas like this with premium wool fabric is a sustainable way to create clothing.
Supple wool hair canvas is not "Vlieseline"
Supple wool hair canvas interfacing is not a Vlieseline brand product. Freudenberg Vlieseline specializes in interfacings for the consumer market that are applied with an iron. Sew-in wool hair canvas is a professional tailoring product and therefore does not fall under the category of "Vlieseline" but is classified as a sew-in interfacing.
Product Specifications
-
Material: A high-quality blend of cotton (34%), wool (33%), viscose (30%), and a small amount of synthetic material (3%).*
-
Dimensions & Weight: The interfacing is 80 cm wide and weighs 128 g/m².
-
Color: Mottled cream / natural.
*This variety is made from natural raw materials (cotton, wool, and viscose), making it suitable for people with allergic reactions to polyester, as it contains only 3% synthetic fibers.
The cotton and wool provide body, the viscose adds suppleness, and the 3% synthetic fibers provide durability. This combination creates a supple wool hair canvas specifically for plastrons. The wool gives the canvas a soft "haircloth" feel and ensures excellent resilience.
