Topstitching or decorative stitching thread is mostly thicker than universal sewing thread. Topstitching thread varies from no. 75 up to no 30. Topstitching thread is also used for buttonholes and is sold under the name buttonhole thread. Most types are made from polyester for strength.

Strong thread for jeans or denim

The saba's are well suited for sewing and topstitiching jeans but there is another type of thread for that same use: Polycore cotton denim doc. This one is a little thinner, no 75 which sewes well on most household sewingmachines and can even be used on the bobbin below. If you do not own a special bobbin case for thicker thread you can use polycore cotton denim doc in the normal one.

Polycore cotton denim doc has a matt cotton finish. That is because it has a polyester core for strength and the cotton is twined around it. It essentially has the best of both worlds, cotton for a great finish, polyester for strength
