Topstitching or buttonhole thread is thicker and stronger then universal sewing thread. Univseral thread is no. 100, this kind is no. 30.

Use a Topstitch needle one your sewing machine to transport the thread more easily. On the bobbin you can use universal thread. You can also use a special "bobbinholder" for extra strong thread. This is usually not provided with your sewing machine, but it needs to be specially ordered at the dealer.
